Working the Shot
A Razor
This post is designed to show the activity "Working the Shot" and how it can affect how you see an everyday object. I started searching for an object and decided on a regular razor.
This is what you might see in any bathroom across the world but this picture is a bit cluttered. This point of view is constrained and not very enlightening.
Moved to the center of the counter but its not at the right height. The details are still out of focus. The border in the background is at the wrong angle as well.
Out of focus still and it remains cluttered but the border from the mirror is better aligned although it is still distracting and takes away from the subject.
The border is still in the corner and ruins the focus of the picture. The box of razor blades is overwhelming and the orange draws the eye.
After removing the box the razor becomes the only focus but the angle doesn't show the craftsmanship and the reflection is more of a glare and doesn't improve the image.
After changing the lighting and the position of the razor it is now possible to see the detail and work that went into this beautiful object that we all take for granted. The background has a pattern that improves the image and doesn't take away from the subject. The contrast from the darker background accents the silver polished razor so that the eye is drawn to it. This activity was overall very entertaining and interesting and gave me a new viewpoint on a common object.
